Awarding of the trophy »Nachtigall« to Brigitte Fassbaender

Brigitte Fassbaender is awarded the »Nachtigall« 2020 for her life’s work by the German Record Critics’ Award (PdSK eV).

06.07.2021 – The PdSK had to postpone the »Nachtigall 2020« twice due to corona. Originally, Brigitte Fassbaender, the great singer, director, and artistic director, was supposed to be celebrated in Berlin in September as part of a music event in the Boris Vian Hall. Then there were joint party plans with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden for February 2021. Now Fassbaender is staging Wagner’s »Ring« for the first time at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl. At the premiere of the »Rheingold« on 10. July 2021, the Nachtigall will finally arrive. It will be presented after the performance, and the laudatory speech will be given by Eleonore Büning.

Nachtigall (Nightingale) – that’s the name of the gilded bronze sculpture that the painter Daniel Richter designed exclusively for the German Record Critics’ Award. It is his first sculpture. An original Richter, in a quasi-limited edition – and at the same time the highest award that the German Record Critics’ Award can bestow. At irregular intervals, we honor exceptional artists who have had a lasting impact on musical life and have changed it for the better.

That was in 2011: Daniel Richter hands over the first copy of the Nachtigall to PdSK chairwoman Eleonore Büning in his Berlin studio, to be passed on to the first Nachtigall winner, Murray Perahia.
