Mozart: String Quartet in B flat major KV 589

Mozartfest Würzburg, Fürstensaal of the Würzburger Residenz

10.06.2018 – Festive double hit: On June 10, the Mozartfest Würzburg invited four of the jurors of the German Record Critics’ Prize to the podium for the first time – and for two reasons: First, the fabulous young Schumann Quartet was celebrated in the sold-out Fürstensaal of the beautiful Würzburg Residenz and was awarded an annual PdSK prize – for the album »Landscapes« from 2017, with compositions by Haydn, Bartók, Pärt and Takemitsu (Berlin Classics label). Eleonore Büning gave the laudatory speech.

And secondly, a »quartet of critics« formed at the same place with Thomas Rübenacker (SWR), Eleonore Büning (FAS), Elisabeth Richter (NDR) and Hans Klaus Jungheinrich (FR) (from left to right), which discussed, quite heated and controversial, very different recordings and interpretations of Mozart’s second Prussian quartet, KV 589 in B flat major – to the delight of the big audience. The day was complete by the live performance of this work by the Schumann Quartet.
