Georg Nigl and Olga Pashchenko

are pleased with their 2021 Annual Award.

17.03.2022 – The two were honored for their recital album »Vanitas« with songs by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and the first recording of Wolfgang Rihm’s new song cycle »Vermischter Traum«. The ceremonial presentation of the certificates took place in the context of a musica viva concert of the Bavarian Radio, on 8 March 2022, in the Hercules Hall of the Munich Residenz, with the lively participation of a large audience – and in the presence of the composer. Immediately before, Georg Nigl and Olga Pashchenko had premiered a new cycle of songs by Wolfgang Rihm: the »Terzinen des Todes«, based on texts by the poet Albert Vigoleis Thelen. The laudatory speech for the Annual Award was given by juror Markus Thiel (Munich Mercury, jury for lieder and vocal recital and current member of the annual committee). He emphasized the apparent, absolutely extraordinary ease with which Baritone Nigl, together with pianist Pashchenko, can directly reach the heart and ear of the listener.
