The Annual Awards 2023

The German Record Critics’ Award (PdSK) hereby announces the Annual Awards for 2023. 96 titles were proposed by the overall jury and selected for the longlist; 10 were chosen by the annual committee as prizewinners. The prizes will be presented to the winners individually in the coming weeks and months. Dates and locations of the ten award ceremonies will be announced soon.

27.09.2023 – The ten Annual Awards for 2023 go:
  • to Hervé Niquet and his ensemble Le Concert Spirituel for their recording of the ballet comique »Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse« by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (Château de Versailles Spectacles/Note 1), a sense of swirling desire communicated with sophisticated expertise;
  • to Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt for their recording of Schubert’s Clarinet Trios Nos. 1 and 2, truly an album for eternity (Ondine/Naxos);
  • to the all-star ensemble of Nubya Garcia, Theon Cross and Shabaka Hutchings, assembled especially for their album London Brew (Concord Jazz/Universal), bursting with self-confidence;
  • to the Monika Roscher Bigband for its orchestrally opulent, intensive, rock-inspired album »Witchy Activities and the Maple Death« (Zenna/Membran);
  • to the Algerian-French singer Souad Massi and her vivid, intimate pandemic album »Sequana« (Wrasse/harmonia mundi-Bertus);
  • to A.S.O. for their eponymous debut album (Low Lying Records/direct distribution);
  • to Colombian singer, producer and conceptual artist Lucrecia Dalt for her accomplished expansion of the world of Latin American rhythms on »¡Ay!« (Rvng Intl./Cargo);
  • following their 2020 Annual Award, once again to The Düsseldorf Düsterboys with »Duo Duo«, the epitome of escapism and eclecticism (Staatsakt/ Bertus);
  • to a masterpiece of dialect and dialectic, the radio play production »Zrugg« by Händl Klaus, which is in memory of Rachèle Moser-Schiffmann and was produced by ORF/Radio Tirol, as well as
  • to Werner Fritsch for his radio play production »Mixing Memory & Desire«, wondrous, gentle images and thoughts from the author’s heaven of ideas; a production of SWR 2.
